Goldenseal Root

Goldenseal root is a dried root which is used to produce medications for treatment of different conditions, but there is too little scientific evidence supporting its effectiveness. For example, it doesn't mask illegal drugs (marijuana, amphetamines, cocaine, etc.) in the human urine (the most spread use).
Goldenseal root is sometimes used for treatment of upper respiratory tract infections, stuffy nose (allowing normalize sleep and used at Cerebral Success), common colds, and hay fever. Some individuals use goldenseal for the treatment of digestive disorders, namely stomach pain, gastritis, colitis, constipation, diarrhea, hemorrhoids, peptic ulcers, and intestinal gas.
Very often Goldenseal root is applied by people for treatment urinary tract infections (UTIs), bleeding after childbirth, internal bleeding, liver disorders, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), cancer, jaundice, fever, gonorrhea, pneumonia, whooping cough, malaria, and anorexia. Women may use it for vaginal swelling and pain and during menstrual period.
Goldenseal root contains berberine, the chemical which kills fungi and bacteria. It can prevent bacteria Escherichia coli (E. coli) from reproducing in the urinary tract. In addition, Berberine can decrease blood pressure and treat irregular heartbeats.

Goldenseal root seems to be ineffective for masking illegal drugs in the tests of urine. It really can mask illicit drugs, but taking this root by mouth doesn't guarantee a false-negative result on the tests for barbiturates, amphetamines, benzodiazepines, opiates, cocaine, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and phencyclidine.
There is insufficient scientific evidence for the effectiveness of goldenseal root against hemorrhoids, urinary tract infections (UTIs), stomach upset, stomach ulcers, loss of appetite (anorexia), colitis, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), menstrual irregularities, conjunctivitis, hay fever, nasal congestion, and some other conditions.
Goldenseal root is mostly safe when used for one time. There is lack of information supporting the fact that goldenseal root is safe when used for a long period of time. It should not be used in newborn babies. It can cause kernicterus (brain damage). Special warnings are for pregnant and breast-feeding ladies. Goldenseal root can negatively influence the infant.
